Department of Revenue workers temporarily morph into the “repo man”
Remember the post about Minnesota’s sales tax hall of shame? In that post, I pointed to a list the state has published online for about the past year or so with the names of businesses that owe back sales taxes.
Turns out number one on that list, Minnesota’s Sales Tax Dodger #1, if you will, was nabbed.
I wrote in the March 2009 post: Offense amounts range from a low of $312.37 (a St. Paul taxi cab company) to a high of, get this, $544,293.89 (a Minneapolis car audio dealer with a website that hosts a blog . . . funny thing but when I typed “sales tax” in the search, not one result was given . . . fancy that).
Well, guess what, that Minneapolis car audio dealer that owed $544,293.89 was caught. Bass Zone, Inc. owner Bun Chhein Om lost his 2003 Lexus and “enough rims, stereo equipment, and other car accessories to fill a 21-foot truck,” according to Minneapolis/St. Paul’s Star Tribune.
The seizure of assets, including a plasma television, took Department of Revenue employees over two hours – no doubt, some of the most fun and physical exercise they’ve had on the job in some time.

YEAH! This is crazy how everyone acknowledges that the person owes taxes, but nothing is done. Glad to see someone pay up.
The bad news is that the state auction house will get very little money for the merchandise they recovered. I doubt that they will even come close to cover 1/10th of the amount due to the state.
Glad I came back to this site some new very interesting items which I wanted to know more about. Great work on your site.
Nice post and blog! Greets.
